this is interesting to me because the first thing I thought of was not exactly that shifting our culture from needs-based to desire-based was liberating.. The first thing I thought of was Brave New World, and how they used this thinking to bolster consumerism into a powerhouse used to control the masses, who were already created (read: born) to function within the system instead of born into a system they had to learn how to maneuver in. Thoughts?
